What is a PCS move?
A PCS, or Permanent Change of Station, is a military relocation from one duty station to another under official orders. It differs from a temporary duty assignment because the service member and family relocate their household for the length of the new assignment, typically two to four years.
Should I rent or buy at my next duty station?
It depends on how long you will be stationed there, local home prices versus rent, and whether your housing allowance covers a mortgage. In low-cost markets with a multi-year assignment, buying with a VA loan often builds equity. In expensive or short-tour locations, renting is usually the safer financial move.
