What is the Interstate Compact for military children?
The Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children is an agreement among all 50 states that eases school transfers for military families. It helps with enrollment, records, course placement, and graduation requirements when a PCS moves a child mid-year, reducing the disruption of changing schools between states.
Should I time a PCS around the school year?
When you can, yes. Moving in summer lets kids start the new school at the beginning of the year, which is easier socially and academically. Orders do not always allow it, but if you have flexibility on report date, a summer move is generally smoother for school-age children than a mid-year transfer.
